Adobe has added a series of AI features in Premiere Pro including a GenAI tool that can extend video and audio clips in seconds. Other features include tools for locating content and translating captions.
The new AI tools, powered by Adobe’s AI tool Firefly, is part of a wider update in Premiere Pro’s Version 25.2, which launched yesterday.
The Generative Extend feature can ‘plug gaps’ in footage and sound, without the need to re-shoot or re-record.
Videos and audio can be extended to up-to two seconds, giving users more transition options. Currently, the tool can extend only ambient music for up-to ten seconds, and cannot extend regular music or speech.
An AI search panel, Media Intelligence, will also be newly introduced into the video editing software, recognising clips in a library based on descriptive words – like what’s in the shot or angles used – being searched. Whilst a new AI translation tool will give users the option to translate video captions into 27 languages.
“We’re so excited to see how the Premiere Pro community uses Generative Extend in 4K and AI-powered Media Intelligence to create stories that capture our imaginations,” said Ashley Still, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Digital Media at Adobe.
“By harnessing the power of Firefly and our advanced AI capabilities, we’re transforming the video editing experience and enabling our customers to focus on what matters most to them – telling vivid, compelling stories.”
Version 25.2 will be free for a limited time before requiring a Creative Cloud subscription.
