Amazon is testing an AI shopping tool to closely match users to their interests. The tool, which itself is called “Interests,” uses AI insights to match relevant products to consumers.
Interests operates on prompts provided by the user, and searches Amazon’s online catalog of products to find and notify the user of new items related to their search.
In a press release on their website, Amazon gave an example of a prompt: “brewing tools and gadgets for coffee lovers”. With this prompt, Interests could scope out coffee products available on the site to recommend and notify the consumer when a good deal comes up.
“Interests works around the clock to find any new items that match your prompt, and it notifies you on any noteworthy update,” Amazon said in the release.
The tool utilises large language models (LLMs) to morph the prompts into requests that search engines can process.
Interests is being trialled on Amazon’s mobile app, and is displayed separately from the main search bar on the company’s website. According to Amazon, it is set to become available for all US users in the next few months.
Amazon continues to invest heavily in GenAI. Andy Jassy, Chief Executive Officer of the tech giant, stated that the company has been involved in building nearly 1,000 GenAI applications. The company also recently released AI shopping guides and assistants for sellers.
