News and data company Dow Jones announced that Factiva, its global news database and AI marketplace for publishers, has secured licensing rights from more than 8,000 major publications for use in generative AI (GenAI) applications.
Factiva serves as a source of high-quality, traceable, and copyright-compliant content to power GenAI tools.
Newly licensed sources include global publications such as ADWEEK, USA TODAY Co., The Globe and Mail, Hong Kong Economic Times, and Newsquest Media Group.
Licensing and Data Integrity in the Age of AI
The company said that by securing licensing agreements with publishers, Factiva ensures its data is safe and free from risks related to data provenance and intellectual property.
“The conversation has shifted from AI’s potential to its provenance, and it’s time to acknowledge that not all AI is created equal,” said Emma O’Brian, General Manager of Factiva.
She continued: “For more than 25 years, we have built our business on the integrity of our data. In the age of AI, Factiva offers our customers a level of transparency and trust that cannot be replicated by scraping content. For business decisions that rely on facts from the most trusted premium global sources, there is no equal in the marketplace today.”
Factiva said the new licensing agreements will enhance two of its GenAI offerings: Factiva APIs, which provide enterprises with licensed, copyright-compliant content to power GenAI tools, and Factiva.com, an AI solution that synthesises search results from licensed content into concise summaries.
