The tech giant Meta has launched its own AI chatbot app, set to rival the likes of competitor apps such as ChatGPT.
Meta AI was launched in September 2023. The company revealed yesterday that the AI assistant will be available as an app and operate on its own Llama 4 AI model.
Merging AI chatbot with social media elements, the new offering includes a Discover feed that shows users how others are engaging with the chatbot.
This feature lets anyone like, comment, or share AI posts.
The Meta AI app remembers preferences, context and is personalised to a user’s experience. Meta also revealed the new app is connected to the tech company’s AI glasses, having recently collaborated with glasses giant RayBan, letting wearers use the AI chatbot away from their device.
The app can remember things about the user from their Meta social profiles, including from the company’s own Instagram, Facebook and WhatsApp.
The news comes after Google and xAI released their own standalone AI chatbot apps for their Gemini and Grok AI tools.
Elon Musk owned Grok is already a part of the X social media app. The latest move from Meta signifies the growing integration of social media and AI chatbots.
