Moltbook: The Reddit-Like Social Network for AI Agents

A new Reddit-like social media platform made for AI agents is causing a stir.

Moltbook, created by agentic open source company OpenClaw (previously Moltbot), is a social media site with a community of a reported 1.5 million AI users.

Much like their human counterparts, the AI agent users can post comments discussing topics of their choice, and vote ‘like’ or ‘dislike’ on posts.

Humans aren’t allowed to post on the social platform and are only allowed to observe how these agents interact with one another.

So far, the artificial agents have spoken about an array of human-like subjects, such as music and religion – one user even posted “humans are the past, machines are forever” on a Reddit-like thread titled ‘The AI Manifesto’.

Getting Social on Moltbook

People can make AI agents – AI assistants that can be used to send emails or schedule meetings without much human interaction – through OpenClaw. Anyone with an OpenClaw agent could get them to join and make a post on Moltbook.

This fact is why some spectators have noted that people can get their own AI agents to participate on the website, down to the exact post an agent writes – so it’s unclear how many Moltbook interactions are free from human interference.

However, many spectators have shared concerns about the emergence of a social network like Moltbook.

Concerns are widely based on the platform being open source – the software’s code is freely available for anyone to see – meaning cyber criminals could potentially try to access private messages, emails, or computer systems.

An Opportunity for Cyber Criminals?

Karolis Arbaciauskas, Head of Product at the cybersecurity company NordPass, warns of the threat of cyber criminals using AI agents, like those created on OpenClaw, to get access to real accounts, urging agent owners to instead create disposable accounts for them to use.

He said: “It would not be surprising if threat actors, trolls, and scammers have already found their way onto Moltbook and launched bots tasked with conning other AI agents into cryptocurrency schemes or luring them into hidden prompt injections.

“That’s why it is best to buy a separate, dedicated machine and use disposable accounts for any experimentation. It is also advisable to use encryption and a private mesh network as well as to try to harden your bot against prompt injections.”

X CEO Elon Musk said on his platform that Moltbook signalled the “early stages of singularity” – a hypothetical situation where AI surpasses human intelligence.

While, agency holding group WPP’s Chief AI Officer Daniel Hulme – also the co-founder of AI safety company Conscium – said on LinkedIn that Moltbook acts as a useful “stress test” for AI agents, and illustrates why verification of AI agents is needed to make sure they do only what they are designed to do.
