OpenAI on Wednesday said it will open new offices in cities including Paris, Brussels, New York, Singapore and Seattle, bolstering the US firm’s domestic and international footprint as it strives to cement its status as a global leader in generative AI.
The new sites, which are expected to open later this year, will add to the ChatGPT maker’s “growing” offices in San Francisco, London, Dublin and Tokyo, OpenAI said.
The Singapore location will become OpenAI’s second office in Asia after the company established itself in Tokyo earlier this year. It will serve as the startup’s hub for Asia-Pacific as it seeks to capitalise on booming demand for AI tools in the region.
OpenAI has reportedly started building a team in the Asian city-state already and tapped managing director Oliver Jay to lead its international operations and global expansion from the site. Jay formerly served on the board of Asian “everything app” Grab, as chief revenue officer for work management platform Asana and as head of APAC and LATAM for file-sharing firm Dropbox.
“We’re excited to partner with the (Singapore) government and the country’s thriving AI ecosystem as we expand into the APAC region,” CEO Sam Altman said in a statement, adding that Singapore has “emerged as a leader in artificial intelligence.”
