Top Stories of the Week
OpenAI’s ChatGPT Ads Get Their First Measurement Partner in LiveRamp
LiveRamp has become the first independent adtech company to pipe conversion data into OpenAI’s conversion API, allowing qualifying advertisers to connect what happens in ChatGPT to real-world purchases for the first time. The deal is US-only for now, limited to select mutual clients, and works primarily through transaction data.
Why it matters:
For an ads business not even four months old, third-party validation matters. TikTok took nearly four years to reach this stage, and OpenAI is doing it in four months. However, LiveRamp is set to become part of Publicis by year end, raising questions about whether a measurement partner with commercial ties to a holding company can remain neutral.
Accenture to Acquire Creator and Social Agency Whalar
Accenture has agreed to acquire Whalar, a creator and social agency, from Whalar Group, with Whalar becoming part of Accenture Song. The deal adds a agency with more than $600 million in creator campaigns across over 40 countries and 15 languages to Accenture’s customer growth capabilities.
Why it matters:
US creator economy ad spend is expected to reach $43.9 billion in 2026, and this is Accenture Song’s third major creator/social acquisition in three years, following Superdigital in 2025 and Unlimited in 2024. The consulting giants are betting that authentic human creative will be the differentiator as AI-generated content floods every other channel.
Amazon Turns Alexa Into a Shopping Agent and Ad Platform
Amazon has combined its AI shopping assistant Rufus with Alexa+ to create Alexa for Shopping, a unified experience that helps customers research products, compare options, track prices, build carts and automate purchases — with sponsored products, sponsored brands and conversational ad formats integrated directly into shopping conversations. More than 300 million customers used Rufus in 2025, and nearly 20 percent of shoppers who interact with a Sponsored Brands prompt continue the conversation about that brand, with prompts driving a 6 percent increase in conversions.
Why it matters:
Alexa can respond to explicit requests shared in natural language, with closed-loop measurement from impression to purchase. Amazon claims More than 300 million customers used Rufus in 2025, and nearly 20 percent of shoppers who interact with a Sponsored Brands prompt continue the conversation about that brand, with prompts driving a 6 percent increase in conversions.

New York’s Synthetic Performer Disclosure Law Takes Effect
A first-in-the-nation New York law requiring advertisers to disclose when an advertisement includes AI-generated “synthetic performers” went into effect this week. Synthetic performers are defined as “digitally-created media that appear as a real person,” and the law applies to ads in any medium. The law arrives alongside an ongoing conflict with a White House executive order seeking to pause state-level AI regulation in favour of a future federal standard.
Gartner: Nearly Half of Consumers Say AI Has Made Content Quality Worse
A new Gartner survey found that 49 percent of US consumers agree that GenAI has actively worsened the quality of content, rising to 57 percent among Gen Z and millennials. “AI-generated content is increasing the volume of media that consumers encounter, but not necessarily the value,” said Kate Muhl, VP Analyst in Gartner’s Marketing practice, presenting at the Gartner Marketing Symposium/Xpo in Denver.
EU Publishes Final Code of Practice on AI-Generated Content Labelling
The European Commission published its final Code of Practice on marking and labelling AI-generated content, a voluntary framework to help providers and deployers of GenAI meet AI Act transparency obligations that apply from 2 August 2026. From that date, deepfakes and AI-generated text on matters of public interest must be clearly labelled, and users must be informed when interacting with chatbots.

MIT Study: Relying on AI to Spot Fake News Makes People Worse at Spotting It Themselves
A new MIT Media Lab study tracked 67 people over four weeks as they evaluated news headline-image pairs, finding that while participants were 21 percent more accurate at detecting fake news when an AI chatbot assisted them, their unassisted performance on new items declined by 15 percentage points by week four once the chatbot was removed.
Hearst Launches Agentic AI Platform AURA IQ
Hearst Magazines has launched AURA IQ, an AI agent layer built on top of its existing AURA audience-targeting platform, which currently powers one in three campaigns across its portfolio including Cosmopolitan, Elle and Esquire. The new platform’s most significant capability for advertisers is bespoke audience generation — AURA IQ can ingest the exact language of an RFP and construct a custom audience from scratch.
Comcast Links TV Ads to Real Purchases via Affinity Solutions Partnership
Comcast Advertising has struck a deal with consumer data company Affinity Solutions to bring consumer purchase data into its Outcomes Plus platform, integrating Affinity’s transaction data into LENS, Comcast Advertising’s AI-powered audience discovery engine. The partnership is designed to move TV buying closer to the purchase-based targeting and closed-loop measurement advertisers are used to on platforms like Google, Meta and Amazon.

OpenAI Launches Product Feed Ads in ChatGPT Ads Manager Beta
OpenAI has introduced a new Ads Manager beta feature allowing retail advertisers to upload product feeds and automatically generate ads from individual catalog items, rather than building campaigns item by item. According to OpenAI, feed-based ads have been among the strongest-performing formats in its Ads Beta so far, mirroring a strategy long used by Google and Meta.
DoubleVerify Expands AI Brand Suitability Measurement to YouTube Audio Ads
DoubleVerify has introduced AI-powered brand suitability reporting for YouTube Audio Ads, extending its post-bid measurement capabilities to one of the fastest-growing segments of digital advertising. Apple Unveils Siri AI at WWDC 2026
Apple revealed the next generation of Siri, called Siri AI, at its WWDC 2026 event, with the assistant integrated across iPhone, iPad and Mac via a reworked Spotlight-style interface, a new Siri app for storing past conversations, and expanded Visual Intelligence features. Siri AI is not yet publicly available — users can join a waitlist via the iOS 27 beta, with general release expected this fall for English-language users, while availability in the EU and China remains limited by regulatory considerations.
Startup of the Week

Warner Music Group is acquiring AI attribution startup Sureel AI, whose patented technology creates an “AI DNA” for songs and traces how AI models use components of a work. Sureel’s registry holds millions of music assets, with the architecture to extend attribution into video and image, and the company will continue operating as a standalone platform.

SparkToro co-founder Rand Fishkin recommended investing in brand awareness on the platforms where audiences already spend time, regardless of whether it drives direct website visits.
